The problem with doing a story based on a cult phenomena is that there's plenty going on that those not in the know wouldn't get. In-jokes and such. I tried to minimize those occurences, but still there were times I couldn't help myself. The alien in the little viewpanel is a S'pht, and they play a major part in the game of Marathon.
